I am passionate about the ethical treatment of animals. Proper care of rodents–hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, etc.–is not widely understood within our society. Further, rodents are often regarded as vermin or pests with little intellectual or emotional capacity. This translates to poor standards of care for rodents. I authored and illustrated a children’s book that focuses on informing readers about the proper care of hamsters. My target audience is upper-elementary-aged students between around 8-12 years old. This project helped me to learn much more in-depth about the full process of learning design and how labor-intensive it is through the development and iteration process. I’m not sure if I’ve ever worked on a single project for so long before LDIT PCE. I am grateful I was able to take a topic I am highly passionate about and use it to assist in my development as a learning designer.
