CityVision Planner is a constructive educational game that encourages students to understand complex challenges and solutions in city planning.
By creating CityVision Planner, I have gained a more practical understanding of learning design frameworks, especially design research in the field of education and the ADDIE model. While there are many guidelines for design learning, iteration (actually trying out different strategies and theories to designing and developing the tool) is the best way to understand the design process in-depth. There are some limitations both in technology and pedagogy that restrict the possibility of the educational game I had in mind originally. However, at the same time, those limitations have encouraged me to think creatively and realistically about educational technology. While I could not create a digital prototype due to technological constraints, I have gained a better understanding of the difference between educational tool design and development during the design process. The final product of the assignment is a game design document of CityVision Planner.
In terms of learning design, CityVision Planner, the game itself can be a tool for users to think about strategic planning.
