Everyday English

Everyday English is a cartoon video series that introduces English Language Learners to everyday English through a blend of quizzes and situational dialogues. To make on-the-go learning easier, each video in the series is less than 2 minutes long. Video topics include visiting the doctor, asking for directions, going clothes shopping, and sports trivia.

Inspired by my experiences living abroad and my experiences teaching English Language Learners, this project demonstrates that learning design is about remembering your “why.” Although my project has taken a few forms before becoming what it is today, what’s remained consistent is its alignment with my overall goal of producing language-learning media to support people as they navigate the differences between textbook/classroom knowledge and the more casual everyday uses of English. It also remains true to my goal of developing new skills in animation and video editing. When deciding on a project, I knew I wanted to create something to add to my professional portfolio to highlight new skills and something that aligned with my personal interests. In addition, I wanted to take advantage of PCE as a space that encourages experimentation and learning by doing. The combination of these “whys” made my project what it’s become.
