Residing in Florida has brought to my attention the significant recycling challenges that the state confronts. Gainesville, being a college town, boasts a student population largely conscious of the importance of recycling and our individual roles in environmental preservation. Just beyond Gainesville, numerous senior homes and villages are scattered, representing a substantial 28% of Florida’s population. Research indicates that the elderly demographic often lacks awareness of climate change and its impacts on our current and future lives.
Motivated by conversations with senior residents and staff in these homes, I have initiated a project. The goal is to develop a card game designed to facilitate discussions among seniors, encouraging them to share their knowledge about recycling and explore habits that can be altered.
