OneTeam: Connecting Teachers & Administrators
Project Description There are over 40,000 open teaching positions in the U.S. right now. Research shows that teacher burnout has negative effects on student achievement. Teachers are stressed, don’t feel valued or supported, and report a lack of trust and autonomy. It doesn’t have to be like this.
One Team. is a platform that provides insights to school administrators that leads to improved teacher experience through increased connection and personalized support. Designed with teachers in mind. Efficient. Effective. Empowering.
Through features that contribute to positive school culture, insights on staff wellbeing and needs, and increased personalization and agency for teachers, One Team. contributes to bettering teacher experience by providing data that leads to more responsive administrating.
During the design process, I learned that my excitement for the project came in waves. Some weeks I was highly motivated and excited to keep working and others I felt more stuck. My TF group and other HGSE peers helped me to talk through what I was working on and provide feedback to validate some of my work while pushing me to improve or change some areas. Personally I was able to bring back momentum to my work when I paused and did more research on the teacher crisis facing schools in the U.S. This is something I experienced first hand as an urban public educator and care about improving. While I can’t change teacher pay immediately, I do believe there are intentional ways that teachers can feel more trusted and valued in their work that could increase their ability to serve students. Through my project I hope to bring administrators into view as a lever to effect teacher experience.
