Welcome to roEDmap, a project born from our own college experiences and a desire to make the journey a little easier for others like us. We’re Jessy Lu and Nida Ahmed, psychology grads from UC Berkeley, an institution where STEM seemed to get all the focus. As two social science majors, we often felt overlooked and frustrated. When we visited the career center seeking guidance, the advice was always the same: pursue a PhD, become a psychologist—paths that didn’t feel right for us, and advice that felt outdated and uninspiring.
We chose psychology because we love working with people, exploring ideas, and getting creative with research. But without real guidance for non-traditional careers, we each had to find our way on our own—one of us ending up in tech companies working on customer success and the other in educational publishing. Along the way, we realized it shouldn’t have to be this hard for students to explore unique career paths outside the conventional industries.
Jessy began her PCE project by developing a newsletter focused on career tips and tricks tailored specifically for psychology students, aiming to bridge the gap in career resources for her peers. Meanwhile, Nida launched her PCE project by creating a course on Articulate Rise that explored the publishing industry and its ties to psychology, providing an interdisciplinary learning experience. Mid-semester, we connected during a joint TF session and saw a unique opportunity to collaborate, given our shared background. By combining our efforts, we expanded the reach and impact of our projects, creating a comprehensive resource hub that blends career insights with field-specific knowledge, making it more accessible and valuable for students in psychology and related disciplines.
That is how roEDmap came to be. We want to offer college students real, practical support for whatever major they choose, whether it’s psychology, art history, or something else that doesn’t fit the “traditional” career mold. Our platform brings together college courses, campus resources, tips, and guidance to help students navigate their academic and career paths. Think of it as a personal roadmap that can help you find opportunities and explore what’s possible without feeling like you are constantly pushing against the current. Whether you’re looking for study resources, internship advice, or a place to explore potential careers, roEDmap is here to support you every step of the way.
