Project Title: Sarana’s Kamila AI: Designed for Indonesia’s Hardworking Frontline
Project Description: Kamila AI is a project close to my heart, inspired by my family’s journey and the role education and technology played in lifting us out of poverty—twice. The first time, my father, who grew up in a small rural village with few resources, taught himself to code on an office computer. This self-taught skill launched his career in tech and helped him escape the poverty his family had endured for generations. Years later, when he became seriously ill and was unable to work, it was my own edtech ventures that supported us. I built my first learning platform, MejaKita, at 15, and a second, MejaKerja, by 18. These experiences showed me the power of education and technology to unlock new opportunities and change lives.
Kamila AI (i.e. a voice-to-voice Xtended Reality situated learning platform built by my company, Sarana AI) is my way of extending that power to Indonesia’s frontline workers, a group that has largely been overlooked by traditional training programs aimed at white-collar jobs. This platform, originally developed for debt collectors at a fintech lending client I serve back home in Indonesia, uses AI to simulate real work scenarios, providing real-time guidance and feedback as users navigate tough conversations. By adapting training to the specific challenges they face, Kamila AI helps these workers not only manage their stress but also become more effective and valued in their roles. I believe that by making their work more productive, effective, and thus valuable, we can help lift them towards a better economic future.
Building Kamila AI has deepened my commitment to designing with empathy, incorporating user feedback to create a product that truly meets their needs. This journey reminds me every day of how important it is to create tools that uplift those who are often left behind. Kamila AI isn’t just a training tool—it’s a step toward my lifelong mission of creating fair opportunities for every Indonesian to grow and thrive.
