The ability to clearly communicate ideas through writing is essential for academic success. Yet many students do not find writing engaging as they struggle with mechanics, structure, and creativity. Our app aims to ignite young learners’ passion for writing by turning this mundane process into an imaginative adventure that is exciting for each individual learner. The goal is to help elementary students creatively express original ideas while intrinsically developing fundamental literacy skills. To achieve this, we leverage AI to provide an adaptive learning experience that makes writing fun.
Students embark on a interactive storytelling journey where prompts and feedback from our AI writing companion jumpstarts their narratives in personalized directions. Our AI companion will help students in their ideation process by providing ideas and exciting graphics to spark imaginations. The students will then be able to hand write their stories and draw the accompanying graphics. The AI analyzes their work to offer revisions that strengthen spelling, spacing, sentence building, grammar, punctuation, and alphabets. It allows plenty of creative freedom while providing guidance to enrich the writing. Throughout the process, the AI scaffolding aims to instill skills naturally as the student creates– taking a constructionist approach to student learning. Inspired by MIT Media Lab’s Lifelong kindergarten’s 4P framework, this app combines project, passion, and play (peer might be coming soon!). As students create, they receive instruction aligned to their zone of proximal development. The AI guidance levels up literacy skills to provide the tools to help students express their thoughts.
