UX Research @ HGSE is an officially recognized student organization at HGSE that aims to create a learning space for anyone interested in the field of user experience research. I created this student org. so that people who have a desire to learn about jobs in tech can learn about UX Research as well as the overall design-thinking process. Since there are currently limited courses at HGSE specifically dedicated to user research, I felt it would be a great opportunity to share my journey into user research and what I’ve learned throughout my career as a UXR. In addition, increasing access to knowledge is extremely important to me. I aim to create spaces and dialogue that help people learn relevant information that could be ‘valuable’ to them. In this context, I created UX Research @ HGSE because I wanted to share what I’ve had the privilege of learning and experiencing as a UX Researcher, both in school and in the industry, so that others can learn from my journey. While I definitely don’t have all the answers, my goal is to help at least one person learn something new through this organization.
This project has helped me learn about all of the mechanisms that take place in creating a student organization: from the logistics, to the content, and the intentionality behind it all. Since I want to create the best learning experience as possible for members, I have been thinking deeply about the different methods I can use to cater to a wide audience (such as Universal Design for Learning principles). Additionally, it has been a learning experience in itself to manage this organization as I am running this organization alone. I’m so excited to continue building this organization throughout the next year and hope many students can benefit from this org.!
