RED – Respect Equity Diversity
My learning design has produced a service design that is a Social Emotional Learning workshop for 6 year old children to learn the world of the blind through the lens of Respect- Equity and Diversity.
WHY? Because I had gone blind for a while. I thought if it is that difficult for me, how will it be for someone who is blind.
The onus of navigating the world of the vision and to teach the visioned about the world of the blind, both fall on the blind.
Why can we not teach visioned children about the blind? If children learn to see the inequity and develop the respect for their blind peers as a diverse voice, it will seed the principle of equity in them. We are not seeking empathy , but equity.
Children develop their theory of mind between 6-8 years, and development of schemas of “R E D” will remain with them. Hence we are taking them through perspective taking and theory of mind.
